At my (computer programming) work in the New York City area in the last few years, I'd say about a third of my colleagues have been of Asian descent. A few years ago I was in a large meeting on important technical issues, 25 people or so, and I was the only person there of White-man appearance, unless you count one fairly pale Arab. The was one other native American there, a Black woman. All the rest were sharpies from China, India, Taiwan, and like that. I felt proud to have made the grade, but anxious about the prospects of my race.
