I think I mentioned this before, but since it's getting close to the
date, why not again? The Group for the Study of Working Class Life at
SUNY-Stony Brook is sponsoring a conference on "How Class Works,"
this Wednesday-Sunday (June 5-9). (The Wednesday event is an evening
plenary, and Sunday's an informal wrap-up; the bulk of the conference
is Thursday-Saturday.) I'll be speaking on Thursday afternoon on
financial markets as class institutions, and on Friday about the
globalization of the ruling class. The star of the conference is
Zwelinzima Vavi, head of the Congress of South African Trade Unions,
who will speak on Saturday evening.
For more info about the conference, see
<http://naples.cc.sunysb.edu/CAS/wcm.nsf/pages/conference>. I'll be
running an interview with the lead organizer, Michael Zweig, on my
radio show on Thursday, from about 5-5:30 NYC time (99.5 FM in NYC,
<http:/www.wbai.org> elsewhere) - recorded, of course, since I'll be
in Stony Brook. Looks like an interesting affair.
