Lots of rural folk in Wisconsin still wear hats.

I just switched over to a straw hat for summer. I wish hats would make a comeback, the Korean War and JFK notwithstanding. There's a great old department store in Milwaukee, Goldmann's, that, the last time I was there about two years ago, still had a good selection. They used to cater to the Germans and Poles of the south side, and now serve a mainly Hispanic population, also into hats.
