Googling, "Matt Welch Iraq, " found a post on the UK CASI (Coalition Against Sanctions on Iraq) listserv (which when I've skimmed in the past is much more careful than say ViTW or IAC on this) s/b worth a look see.
Also, this, has the David Cortright piece from The Nation and other sources, http://www.backflip.com/members/thomasn528/10232759/page=1/sort=1 Michael Pugliese>>
Thank you for the links. Yes, I agree that CASI, Cortright and Welch are more careful than John Pilger and the Voices in the Wilderness people, and I'm sure that Garfield's revised estimate of 350,000 child deaths since 1990 is more accurate than the widely circulated half-million figure. Still, the only reason why I think that it's important to recognize this is because it gives a more accurate picture of what's really going on with sanctions, not because it would do anything to help the cause of lifting the embargo. (How's that for cynical?) Kathy Kelly's response to the Reason article made some very good points, by the way: http://www.nonviolence.org/vitw/pages/190.htm
