If Chuck really thinks that electricity supply is a net loss, then let him turn off his electricity supply, and stick to his candles.

You should read the article posted. The quote to which this was directed, proposed that the cost of lighting had dropped by a thousand percent. All of that was no doubt true, if you focus on the end cost to a consumer. However, what was ignored was the `cost' of the entire two centuries of industrialization and the continuing `cost' of neoliberal economic policies (particularly the grand free market privatization of all public infrastructure) to that same consumer, as well as the rest of the planet.

Hopefully more meaningful alternatives to Brad and Larry's free market scams for the rich and trickle down for the rest, will arise in international forums like the Jo'berg Conference. If you have arguments with those potential alternatives, then please post them. That's were the discussion and arguments belong. I am not sure attacking my tree hugging, save the whales, free love, back to the caves naivety will do you much good.

You might not realize this, but the `cost' of de-regulated electricity is looking like a very net loss to the California state budget now that Brad and Larry's free for all who are wealthy de-regulation of energy took hold last year. People here were asking, where can I buy candles? But I wasn't worried, since I had my kerosene light for camping at the ready---
