Go for mass membership, non-profit org. status, keep membership fees down, and set a limited agenda with popular appeal (basic health care coverage for all, higher minimum wage, fairer tax codes for workers, and better regulation of our working and educational lives--some recent ideas from the Netherlands and France seem interesting). Part-time and temporary workers would be most welcome. NPO networking, also, would be desirable, since the US elite's hijacking of WTO and OECD agendas has to be countered. For a start, shame that elite. It's the US that has to become more like Europe, not vice versa, though many US workers now would find they have more in common with much of the developing world (but with less access to health care).
