All this touches on Chomsky's bias against theory. To him, ideas and arguments stand on their own merits. How they are received, the uses to which they are put, the ideological contexts they circulate in - things like that don't really interest him. And because some creepy people appropriate, even publish, his writing, he ends up seriously discredited.
