Socialism was not popular among Jews until the last quarter of the 19th century, and then mainly in Russia and Poland, not in Germany, where Jews were assinmilated and middle class. In the 1830s and 40s they faced persecution simply as Jews, were excluded from civiv life, etc., everywhere in Europe except (officially) in England and France, jks
