Comparing Picasso and Eisenstein is like comparing apples and oranges, though, as they worked in different media. Modern paintings in the main, unlike cinema, are not twinned to narrative at their birth.

If you want to contrast narrative cinema with cinema that rebels against the conventions of story-telling, you might contrast Eisenstein with Vertov, Jonas Mekas, Stan Brakhage, Maya Deren, Trinh T. Minh-ha, and the like. -- Yoshie
