O Brother (was Sopranos)

I think the soundtrack and the movie were both great. The soundtrack had oodles of talented singers and musicians (I have always been a fan of Gillian Welch and Emmylou Harris's voice is divine). They also picked some great songs. Although it really wasn't my favorite album of last year [zero 7's "Simple Things" easily took that honor], it is good that "roots" music gets some deserved attention.

I can't say I have paid much attention to the Grammy's over the years. It doesn't make sense on so many levels (except it makes too much sense business wise) and they seem to pick a lot of duds even when they try to pick things with critical cache. Their choices for best dance and remix work over the years have been embarrassingly bad. The Grammy's are also famous for picking overhyped no-talents for best new artist every year aren't they?

I am partial to Battle Star's (Brooklyn country trip-hop hipsters) version of "I Am Man of Constant Sorrow". [Battle Star have a good economics song "Home Economics"]. Available at MP3.com.

Peace,

Jim

yes there comes a booming sound it used to come from underground now it emanates from a kind of welfare state of the soul
