Quite true.  As grotesque a vision of the workers' state as the USSR was, it 
was the *only* thing that kept the US from being a society with no social 
safety nets, CEOs who reward themselves with zillions of dollars of 
"incentive" pay a year, and the gleeful global pursuit of raw, in-your-face 
imperialism.
