World hungry total 815 m AFP, Tehran
Around 815 million people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition, mostly in developing countries, the head of the Rome-based UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) said today. "There are around 815 million people suffering from chronic malnutrition in the world today: 777 million in the developing world, 27 million in transitional countries and 11 million in industrialised countries," Jacques Diouf told the opening of a 26th FAO regional conference. Improvement registered in certain developing countries and regions, notably in East Asia, has been offset by the deteriorating situation in other regions, notably sub-Saharan Africa, central America and the Caribbean.
