How "perversely wrong" does someone have to be before they are no longer "smart and interesting"?

For one, Dan Lazare was also on, to disagree wtih him. But for two, I like James, and I think he's a smart and interesting guy - even when he's peversely wrong, as he is on cars and global warming.
