_The Caine Mutiny_ was interesting -- but his subsequent novels would have been a disgrace to the old _True Confessions_ magazine. It was one of those (loosely, very loosely) based on the life of Thomas Wolfe but mostly exhibiting Wouk's personal venom against anyone who didn't worship him that I had in mind.
