There was an offer from the Taliban to turn over ObL if thwe US produced some evidence. We have no idea whether they were serious, but was worth finding out. That's to start with. Second, we got into a mixup with thousands of heavily armed people because we went to war. If we'd kept it on the level of an international police investigation of the sort run against lot of heavily armed thugs, e.g., narcotrafficantes, etc., all the time, we wouldn't necessarily be at war. I'm just a lawyer, not a specialist in international crime, so I can't tell you how it's done. But I think I can say it has been done and is being done in places where we don't feel free to go on an bomb the country flat. I'll also point out that the military option hasn't proved so successful at anything but bombing the country flat and leading to a rapid demise of our liberties here--also a big boost for W. and his policies. But maybe Dennis doesn't care about the inevitable side effect of the war he's so happy about. jks
