Russia denies reports that Vietnamese base may be turned over to U.S.
MOSCOW. May 6 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry denies reports that
the Camran base in Vietnam, abandoned by the Russian military contingent,
may be turned over to U.S. armed forces.
Commenting on these reports at Interfax request, the ministry spokesman
Alexander Yakovenko noted that Vietnamese Foreign Ministry has repeatedly
declared that the leadership does not intend to lease the base for military
use to any country once the agreement with Russia has expired.
"At this background, reports about plans for foreign military presence at
the base are, in our view, far-fetched," said the spokesman.
