From a European left list. M.P.

Pim Fortuyn was a marxist sociologist at Rotterdam in the 1970's. After that, he became a social- democrat (in the PvdA), a conservative liberal, had contacts with very much political parties around the centre, and at the moment he died he was inspired by neo-liberalism.

His party was NOT Leefbaar Nederland [livable netherlands], though he headed its' list for the next week elections about from its' formal existing till about two months ago. In february or march (can't remember) he was kicked out that party because of an interview in which he proclaimed 'Islam is a backward culture'. After that, he built his own list: Lijst Pim Fortuyn, [Pim Fortuyns' List]. http://www.lijst- pimfortuyn.nl At this list are some prominent politicians, some from the christian- democratic party. In the last poll he got 37 seats, (almost 30% of the votes) which means he'd become the greatest party. To be clear: though Fortuyn called for a closure of the borders, his thoughts about islam as a backward culture, he was NOT a new Jean- Marie Le Pen, like I saw in some foreign papers (he wasn't against muslims, and in the week before his death called for a general pardon for asylum-seekers who are waiting for more than five years, he was gay himself, had no connection with neonazi's) but a neo-liberal.

The guy who probably killed him (one shot in the neck, two in the head, two in the chest at a radiostation-parking) was 32 and probably NOT leftist: he was an envirement- activist.
