I do think Stewart is one of the few substantive political comics out there, although most of his show's humor is more on the absurdist side than any particular political position-- he just loves letting people with wacko views get enough rope to hang himself. But like Roger Moore, that approach has its sharp political edge-- he often lets corporate folks on his "correspondent" interviews, where they push pro-corporate sucking-up to such a point as to make the whole "we're just looking out for the public interest" approach of corporate flacks look like the phoney shit it is.

And I loved that when temperatures hit the high 90s a few weeks ago, Stewart started his show noting that the temparature had been a pleasant balmy 98 degrees, then shifted to a wimpering voice as he said "We are all going to die"; he didn't even have to say the words global warming (although he has at other times); his whole manner was the harshest editorial you could imagine :)
