Jack London (was Re:Suicide Bombers)

As a virtual resident of the official Jack London Square here in Oakland, CA, I feel a special duty to respond, with respect to the politics. Jack London was a raving anti-Chinese and anti-Asian racist, reflecting the same of the Bay Area labor movement of that time. Given the rather amorphous, petit-bourgeois character of Londons' socialism and his eventual departure from the US Socialist Party, London would have made an ideal recruit to Mussolini's Fascist Party in the early 1920's, had he been Italian.

But he wasn't, so we'll never really know, will we? -Brad Mayer

Jack London was a very mixed bag. Racist, certainly.

I referred to "The Iron Heel" because he has a paragraph in there about the future of humanity consisting of a boot stamping on a human head ....forever...or words to that effect. It seems to describe the situation in Palestine. I wasn't reaching for anything deeper or truer than that.
