Help me out on Joe Namath.

The first pop-alt pro sports star. Played in college under Bear Bryant at Alabama. All-American QB drafted by both the NFL and rival AFL in the mid-60s. Went to the AFL's New York Jets, flourished in the league's wide-open offense and QB-friendly atmosphere. Helped make the AFL a respectable and entertaining league. Was the first long-haired pro, complete with Fu-Manchu moustache and white cleats (considered gay by football's old-timers). Predicted Jets victory over the talented Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, and delivered, putting the AFL on the map. Nixon, being a huge football fan (he would devise plays for George Allen's Washington Redskins), probably wretched at this hippie superstar who augmented his football salary with mega-ad revenue, including the infamous panty hose spot.
