Quoting Uri Dan's story in today's NY Post:
>A weary-looking Sharon said later:
>
>"I will continue to lead the state of Israel and the people of
>Israel according to the same ideas that led me always - security for
>the state of Israel and its citizens and our desire for real peace."
>
>He insisted that in any case, no move toward a Palestinian state

>terrorist campaign against Israel stop and that the Palestinian
>Authority undergo major reforms.
>
>"There is no chance for peace with terror or with a man of terror,"
>Sharon said, referring to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
>
>"The Palestinian Authority must reform itself at its base: all areas
>- security, economic, legal and social - and it must take
>responsibility over itself. We cannot have peace with a corrupted
>terrorist dictatorship."
So, Israel's idea of a Palestinian state is one whose leadership and structure they specify. That's not an independent state - it's somewhere between a colony and a bantustan.
