Russian industrial growth at 3.0% in Jan-April
Moscow. (Interfax) - Russian industrial production grew 3.0% year-on-year in
the first four months of this year, the State Statistics Committee reported
on Tuesday.
Year-on-year industrial growth slowed from 5.6% in the first four months of
2001.
Industrial output growth accelerated to 4.3% year-on-year in April from 3.7%
in March, 2.0% in February and 2.2% in January. However, output in April was
down 4.3% from the previous month.
Adjusted for the number of working days, industrial production grew 3.0%
year-on-year in the first four months of 2002, including 1.2% in April (down
from 5.3% in March).
The greatest year-on-year growth in the four months was 28.2% in the
biotechnology sector, 8.7% in nonferrous metallurgy, 7.5% in the food
industry, and 7.4% in the printing industry. Output slumped 3.3% in the
power sector, 5.5% in grain milling and formula feed, and 16.7% in the
medical industry.
