I ask this in good faith, as I do not know the answer: Is there one epoch in history in which the declining imperialist power was NOT replaced by another imperialist power? Granted the forms of imperialism may be different and one may be "worse" than the other, but doesn't your point presume that we would be better off? I am not saying that things would be worse without the U.S., but what justifies your belief that it would be obviously better?
