I don't think Maryland is one bit less liberal. The shape of the Dem Party is a different matter.

KK Townsend has run a crappy campaign, and she and the Gov allowed themselves to be painted as more sleazy than the conventional pol. Ehrlich is perceived as and supported as a moderate, not as a conservative.

It ain't funny at all. Maryland, once considered a Democratic stronghold is very likely to have a Repug for the governor tomorrow. And it is not a moderate middle of the road Repug, but a right wing bastard spawned by the "Gingrich revolution."

That means one of the following: - That American public is becoming reactionary, - That Democratic party is all but kaput and cannot even turn major Repug screw up to their advantage - both.

It is quite sad to see a guy with the used car dealer background and the name of a nationally recognized exterminator company becoming the governor of this state.
