Palestinian and Israeli Experts to Consider New Prospects for Peace and Resolution

Five international experts will be speaking in Madison this November and December to consider various peace plans for Palestine and Israel. The lecture series is jointly sponsored by the UW Haven Center, the Departments of History and African Languages and Literature, the Global Studies Program, and a campus group, the Alternative Palestinian Agenda (www.ap-agenda.org). The title of the lecture series is New Prospects for Resolution in Palestine and Israel

The speakers bring to the lectures diverse professional and personal perspectives. All of them demonstrate how even in times of crisis significant efforts are being made to advance peace.

The dates, times, rooms and speakers are:

Friday, November 15, 7 pm, Room 3560 Humanities, Said Zaydani, a UW alumnus and Professor of Philosophy at Bir Zeit University who is director of the Independent Palestinian Commission for the Protection of Citizens' Rights.

Tuesday, November 19, 7 pm, Room 272 Bascom Hall, Nadim Rouhana, director of Israeli-Arab Social Science Research Center, Haifa University.

Wednesday, November 20, 7 pm, Room 272 Bascom Hall, Eyad Sarraj, Director of Gaza Mental Health Program and prominent Palestinian peace advocate.

Tuesday, November 26, at 7 pm, Room B10 Ingraham Hall, Ilan Pappe, senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Haifa University and Founder and Director of the Institute for Peace Research in Israel; author, co-author or editor of more than ten books focusing on the history of Israel and Palestine.

Thursday, December 5, 7 pm, Room 272 Bascom Hall, Jeff Halper, an anthropologist at Ben Gurion University and founder of ICAHD, the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions.
