DP and RP are not political parties with leaders and members; they are loose groupings of candidates with group and individual fundraising machines. The majority of Democrats do not go to local DP meetings, not even in the middle of an electoral campaign, just as the majority of unionists do not go to their local's union meetings, except when they are, or about to go, on strike. -- Yoshie
