Chuck, relax! I did not write that militant Islamic fundamentalism was like new social movements such as environmentalism and feminism. I wrote that the analytical tools crafted by sociologists who developed New Social Movement Theory, can, in part, be used to examine militant Islamic fundamentalism. This would include the empahasis on movement culture and movement identity; the role of horizontal networks; the departure from classic labor-organizing demands and strategies, etc.
