So the Senate Dems have once again killed the bankruptcy bill, despite its passage by the House.

If the Dems are such whores of the credit card industry, why aren't they passing the bill the in the Senate?

DASCHLE SAYS NEW VERSION OF BANKRUPTCY BILL WON'T PASS SENATE AP Friday, November 15, 2002

Senate Majority leader Tom Daschle says a bankruptcy reform bill is dead.

He blames House Republicans for killing the measure, which would have made it harder for Americans to get rid of their debts.

House Republicans rejected a House-Senate compromise on bankruptcy that negotiators had worked on for months. They revolted against language that would have prohibited anti-abortion protesters from using bankruptcy laws to avoid paying court-imposed fines.

The House instead approved and sent to the Senate a stripped-down bill that didn't have the controversial abortion provision.

Banking and credit card companies have been pushing the legislation since 1997, but it has stalled each year in Congress.

This year's compromise was the closet the measure has ever come to passage.
