The two parties fought on their chosen turf: shared commitment to u.s. imperialism, quiescent labor, and marginalization of potentially disruptive groups -- e.g., blacks, with marginal differences allowed and encouraged. Everyone honored the rules. No one made waves. One won. One lost. No one is to blame. There is nothing to blame anyone for. Corporate sponsors of both are doubtless quite contented.
