Now, now-- don't take the line seriously-- it was the reciprocal of the "do all Dems" believe X, which is the whole reification of Democrats that I think is so intellectually messed up. In the 2000 election, there were lots of different players and almost all of those fighting over strategy were Democrats, whether they wanted to riot or dutifully bow to the Supreme Court.
I had to put up after the election with so-called radicals in the National Lawyers Guild saying that impeachment was too dangerous, since we had to respect judicial review. I was in the ready to rumble from day one camp and was pissed at hell at the capitulation from whole sectors of liberal and left forces.
There just seems to be a mental block among a lot of third party folks in sociologically understanding the multiple forces involved in major party election activity. The politicians themselves are both the result of those contending forces and, once they have office which gives them independent power, a force unto themselves. But even that power is never uncontested.
