Weren't Germany and Italy pretty close to socialist revolution before the Fascists took their power? Seems as though what were already democracies were "capitalized with bombs."
I'm even less sure about Japan, but wasn't there some kind of nascent socialist or workers' movement that was suppressed by MacArthur's military government in favour of gung-ho capitalism? I vaguely remember someone here mentioning how it broke the backs of the more militant unions.
I've yet to see "democracy" appear anywhere in Afghanistan.
