PRESS RELEASE October 2, 2002 Posted to the web October 2, 2002

Washington, DC

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) launched today a web site on foreign direct investment (FDI) designed to meet the needs of a wide range of users such as researchers, financial analysts and journalists. The web site provides information on the practices of 55 countries.

The web site has two main sections:

1. For each country, metadata describing the data availability, data sources, compilation practices, and methodology used to compile the data.

2. Cross-country comparison tables summarizing by issue the practices of those 55 countries.

The information is based on a 2001 survey conducted jointly by the IMF and the OECD.

The description of the practices for each individual country has been verified by the authorities of that country. The statements about whether a country's practices are in accordance with the international standards for compiling FDI data are the judgment of the IMF staff.

The web site address is www.imf.org/external/np/sta/di/mdb97.htm --- Sent from UnionMail Service [http://mail.union.org.za]
