Powerful Attack Cripples Net's Core

Budge,

I understand that it was not so much the type of attack, Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS), that was the concern, but the targets themselves, as up to 9 of the 13 core name servers (DNS) were hit. I'm in the technology business, and I am not aware of a previous incident that targeted these DNS machines, let alone so many of them simultaneously.

If you've got more info on this please let me know.

This is the typically breathless reportage of Internet problems that one can expect -- especially in these days of the war on (some) terror where this sort of thing can be counted on to inspire the need for "more Internet security".

This was mostly a non-event, noticeable only to the engineers running the servers in question and the people running the pipes that feed them. It is unlikely any end user would have even noticed.

FUD FUD FUD! It's good for business!
