I shall read that interview, but, yes, David Lynch is
another one of my favorite directors, although I dont
consider him in the same league as Tarkovsky. He,
Lynch, is THE chronicler of the dark side of the
American Dream, as far as I am concerned. And it will
be interesting to see if his next movie can top
"Mulholland Drive" which was incredible.
The reason I used the term "reactionary" for Tarkovsky is that is how he would be viewed by certain fasco-bolshoi leftists. He was a mystic, glorified the artist (especially himself) and had disdain for the Soviet bureaucracy, etc.(and of course first tried to gain asylum in Sweden and then Italy). I must admit that his views on women would be considered reactionary, if that's the right word: woman should be nurturers.
For me, he is just the greatest director EVER. And I was interested to learn that no less than Bergman also made comments to the effect that Tarkovsky was the greatest.
