If such skill is so common, then who are the contemporary writers with well-done humor built around a commendable core? Where's the prole's cotton candy?
Admittedly, I am quite found of Tom Tomorrow. Good core there. Still, there's something about the sheer bombast of Mencken, a verve not so apparent in Tomorrow's work.
