bingo. i think this is very easy to forget, but it is absolutely critical to understanding the nature of the situation. remember, israel fomented *precisely* religious palestinian activism in the form of hamas, meant as a counterweight to the secular nationalism of the plo. i wonder how hitch fits that into his little schema.
