First, there just aren't many poor white men-- most of lower class are women and people of color. Only 18% of white men have incomes of under $30,000 per year. So with 37% of the population being non-hispanic white men, we are talking about basically 7% of the population that is in this prototypical poor white male category. It would be nice to get more of them and I am all for promoting NASCAR and gun culture if that will pull them back on the economic issues, but the real key is to mobilize the real working class constituency in the United States-- which is overwhelmingly female and of color.
