Rambus, for those not in the loop, was this small startup which came up with a nifty memory technology, but pissed off the major DRAM makers thanks to obnoxious lawsuits and legal shenanigans (including an outrageous attempt at claiming a JEDEC open source standard was company IP). But it turns out manufacturing matters after all:
