Rambus, for those not in the loop, was this small startup which came up
with a nifty memory technology, but pissed off the major DRAM makers
thanks to obnoxious lawsuits and legal shenanigans (including an
outrageous attempt at claiming a JEDEC open source standard was
company IP). But it turns out manufacturing matters after all:
"Officials at Intel Corp. have at last confirmed that the company is
phasing out PC and workstation support of RDRAM from Rambus Inc. in favor
of DDR SDRAM..."
