UN declares Chinese separatists as Al-Qaeda suspects

China on Thursday welcomed a United Nations decision to place a Uighur separatist group in its western region of Xinjiang on a list of Al-Qaeda suspects, calling the move an "encouraging result".
In a swift reaction, foreign ministry spokesman Kong Quan said the listing of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), at the request of China and the United States, showed joint anti-terrorism efforts were working.
