This reminds me that one of the first things I remember that set me against Capitalism was reading a story/novel by Hector Maillot called "Sans Famille" (Without Family). I must have been six or seven when I read it. All I remember is that it tells the story of two homless children who roam the streets begging for food. At one point, they accidentally run into these bourgies given their pet dog (and his doggie friends) a birthday party. The dogs are all seated around a yummy spread and regale themselves, while the children, their stomachs cramping with hunger, watch.

I have never forgotten that story and never doubted its literal truth. And now, it's deja vu all over again :)
