Real incomes grow in Russia in August. ITAR-TASS September 19, 2002

The real cash incomes of the Russian population after all the compulsory payments and corrected according to the index of consumer prices, grew by 1. 7 per cent in August 2002 as compared to July and by 6. 7 per cent as compared to August 2001, the State Statistical Board of the Russian Federation reported on Thursday.

The average per capita incomes of the Russian population equaled to 3,784 roubles, topping by 0. 7 per cent the figure for July 2002 and by 24. 3 per cent - the figure for August 2001.

The average monthly nominal wages in Russia grew by 46 rubles in August, topping by approximately one per cent the July figure and adding up to 4,643 rubles, which is 37. 7 per cent more than in August 2001. The real average monthly wages grew in August by 0. 9 per cent as compared to July and by 19. 6 per cent as compared to August 2001. The Russian government has fixed for all the country a subsistence minimum for the second quarter of 2002 at the level of 1,804 rubles per capita. The subsistence minimum for the able-bodied active population equals to 1,960 rubles in the second quarter of the year, for pensioners - 1,383 rubles, and for children - 1,795 rubles.

The subsistence minimum grew on the average by five per cent as compared to the first quarter of 2002. The cost of the average consumer basket for all the population of Russia equaled to 1,709 rubles in the second quarter of 2002, spendings on compulsory payments and levies - to 95 rubles. The cost of the minimum basket of food products equaled to 873 rubles, non-food commodities - 412 rubles, and of the minimum set of services - 424 rubles.

The number of people, whose average per capita cash incomes were below the subsistence minimum fixed for all of Russia, dropped from 47. 7 million people in the first quarter of 2002 to 42. 2 million people in the second quarter of 2002. Their share in the total number of the country's population dropped from 33. 3 per cent to 29. 4 per cent respectively.
