Sticky image, piracy brake Russia's software future Reuters Moscow, September 30
Russia's swelling software industry is eyeing a juicier slice of the billion-dollar global IT market, but an image problem abroad and a high rate of digital piracy could put a brake on its ambitions.
With a huge pool of cheap labour in the high-tech field and a strong record in the sciences, Russia is potentially a weighty player in the global IT arena which could one day challenge traditional industry giants such as India, experts say.
But Russian executives say political turmoil and economic chaos have stopped the country gaining international recognition for its ambitious, if small, high-tech industry.
