More things change, more it is the same thing; less awkwardly and more traditionally, The more things change, the more they stay the same. My Oxford Dictionary of Qutations (3d ed. 1979) identifies the course as one Alphone Karr ina 1849 work called Les Guelphes, presumably about Dante'[s Florence (but I'm just guessing). Never heard of him otherwise, but there's another (pro-death-penalty) quote attributed to him in the ODQ.
