Ananova Support for war 'drops below 50%'
Support for the war has dropped below 50% for the first time since military action started, according to a poll.
And while Tony Blair scores better than George Bush on trust levels, 60% do not trust the Prime Minister to tell the truth about the war.
But the Daily Mirror/GMTV poll showed an overwhelming majority - 78% - do not want British troops brought home until the war is over, no matter how long it takes.
Support for the US and British action now stands at 48%, with 38% against going to war, and 14% unsure.
Backing for the war has dropped steadily following a sharp swing of public opinion behind British troops immediately following the start of military action.
ICM interviewed 502 adults on April 1. Of those 16% said British troops should be withdrawn immediately.
More than half, 54%, said they thought coalition forces had been quite well prepared for the action, with 23% saying they had been quite badly prepared. Just 5% said troops had been very badly prepared.
The trust index makes particularly uncomfortable reading for the US President, with fewer than one in seven trusting him to tell the truth about what is happening in Iraq.
Those most trusted were reporters covering the war, with 60% support, compared with 40% saying they trust Mr Blair's version of events - 18% said they did not trust anyone to tell the truth about the war.
