Powell calls Ivanov, deplores fire on Russian Embassy convoy
MOSCOW. April 6 (Interfax) - U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell telephoned
Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and deplored a Sunday incident in which
a convoy of Russian Embassy diplomats and journalists evacuating from
Baghdad came under fire, four or five of them being injured. 

   "Powell offered assurances that the American side and he personally would
do everything necessary to guarantee the Russian diplomats secure departure
from Iraqi territory," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a release. 

   The convoy is heading for Damascus.
