Two interesting conversations with office staffL one with a woman in word processing, probably in her 30s, who was saying, You hear whjat they found? I said, they planted it; I'd like to see if they let Blix and the UN look at it. She sent me a CNN link. Another with a young woman in her 20s, a secretary, I think, rather longer, I cynically laid out the oil theory, explained why I didn't think Iraqis were going to benefit from all this. She was shocked but open-minded, hadn't heard what I'd said before, said it was food for thought. I think 70% of the public will believe it even if it is retracted. jks

Yup. That might make a difference abroad, but the credulous 70% of Americans will probably swallow it whole. As you can see, my former optimism about public opinion is decaying rapidly.
