Kinf of like in those movies where the female star goes through hell and still manages to look radiant? ;-)
The entire day smells to me like massive manipulation from the US government on a grand scale. The big thing was the staged toppling of the Saddam statue, which was apparently intended as a symbolic event signifying the "capture" of Baghdad.
Other odd stuff:
* Tom Trouble pointed out to me via the phone that CNN was spending a large amount of time carrying live a small Iraqi expatriate protest in Dearborn, Michigan. Tom pointed out to me that the crowd was no bigger than 50. * That sign that appeared in front the ABC News cameras this morning that read "Human shields go home." * The Cheney photo op and speech this morning where he scolded those who criticized the progress of the war. * The Rumsfeld photo op, during which he deliberately displayed an obvious grin.
