I believe there are actually two dinars, the
Swiss-printed one used in the north which is currently
being hoarded by speculators, and a Saddam dinar in
the south. The latter is as worthless a piece of paper
as a UN resolution.

The Baltimore Sun said of the latter that 600 last
Friday would buy you a kilo of fruit. The next day the
same kilo of fruit cost 1,000. From that article: 

"Children tried to make money on U.S. soldiers camped
at a school a few blocks away by selling Pepsis for $3
apiece and offering to trade 250-dinar bills worth 8
cents for $1 bills. They found no takers."
