It's a mess, inn't it? I remember some prowar bloggers--likely recycling
sub-Rumfeldian pap--saying that victory would be easy: just destory Iraq's
command/control/communications (C^3) infrastructure and you'd be done.
I never understood this, and objected that you'd have to *take* the
C^3 facilities instead, because otherwise you couldn't secure a surrender,
and you'd just have indefinite fighting on your hands. Some units would
give up, of course--but others would fight, not necessarily out of loyality
to Saddam Hussein, but out of nationalist sentiment, lack of orders to the
contrary, dislike of Americans, etc...
I figured the "kill the C^3" strategy was just for propaganda purposes, to
make people think this would be a short, easy war. Guess I was wrong. The
giant sucking sound is a power vacuum, killing Iraqis and Americans alike....
