Well, I understand. But part of the progressive point to having public higher education is precisely the opposite. You want open, common and accessible ground to celebrate human achievements in science, art, society and history. The whole point is to make these the established reading, not as some special, suspect, and esoteric privilaged knowledge.
I get the feeling that under the Neocon tutelage it is as if a once traditional liberal education in the Humanities has been made equivalent to some sort of quasi-unoffical secret society.
